Witnesses are temporarily detained

The first day of a trial at the regional court for attempted manslaughter with dangerous bodily injury was a curious one. The two most important witnesses – the victim himself, a 62-year-old man, and his 80-year-old father-in-law from the district of kronach – were temporarily arrested by the public prosecutor’s office for making false statements.
The 32-year-old defendant from the district of kronach is accused of having inflicted a knife wound approximately five centimeters long on the right side of his neck, several stabs in the right armpit region, on the left wrist and on the right upper arm on his 62-year-old father in june 2011. The victim then had to undergo surgery at the frankenwald clinic.
During yesterday’s trial, the accused did not want to give any information about what happened and denied having committed the crime. However, based on the testimonies of the witnesses, many things point to the 32-year-old as the perpetrator.
In a police interrogation in june 2011, the trial’s key witness, the 80-year-old grandfather of the defendant, incriminated his 32-year-old grandson and identified him as the perpetrator of the crime. He testified similarly before an investigating judge a few weeks later.
However, at yesterday’s hearing it seemed as if he wanted to protect his grandson. He claimed that the 32-year-old was no longer in the apartment at the time of the crime.
During the interrogation of the injured man, inconsistencies also emerged during the trial. Like his father-in-law, the man apparently tried to exonerate his son by making false statements. So the two mannerists were temporarily detained.
21 witnesses have been heard so far. The trial will continue on thursday at 9 o’clock.

Unnecessary plastic deposit piles

In the district of kronach, around 7 million disposable bottles could be saved each year for mineral water and soft drinks alone – if manufacturers and retailers consistently complied with the legal reusable quota. This has been pointed out by the trade union nahrung-genuss-gaststatten. The NGG upper franconia bases its calculation on a statistical per capita consumption of around 148 liters of mineral water and 116 liters of soft drinks per year. According to the german federal environment agency, the percentage of refillable bottles used here was recently only 33 percent. However, as of this year, a reusable bottle quota of 70 percent is required by law. For the difference of 37 percent, based on an average bottle size of one liter, this results in a plastic savings of 7 million bottles in the kronach district.

Mehrweg secures jobs

"Disposable bottles put massive pressure on the local environmental balance sheet. Because the plastic bottles, on which there is a 25 cent deposit, are shredded after only one use and "recycled", says michael grundl, managing director of NGG upper franconia. On the other hand, a 0.7-liter glass water bottle replaces 37 1-liter PET bottles in the eco-balance. This is the conclusion reached by the german environmental aid association (DUH). The reusable system is not only important in terms of environmental protection, says grundl. "If glass or sturdy plastic bottles are collected, cleaned and filled, this also secures jobs in the beverage industry. It employs more than 20000 people in bavaria." Mehrweg was also a decisive contribution against the "deposit chaos" in the super or beverage market, so the NGG. "Consumers complain that they often only get rid of their empties where they bought them. The best strategy is to use standard returnable bottles, such as the euro bottle for beer, which is widely used in bavaria. They are collected regionally and refilled – without having to travel long distances", according to grundl.

Windows from the 1960s in the district court of forchheim

windows from the 1960s in the district court of forchheim

From tuesday, 12. June, construction work begins on the main building of the district court in forchheim. They are the prelude to the energetic renovation of the building, initially by replacing the wooden windows that date back to the 1960s. In their place, modern windows with heat-protective glazing and aluminum frames will be installed. These will again be based on the historic appearance of the original windows from the time the court was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Orientation to the twentieth century.

"The old windows have not met the energy requirements for a long time, and they have never been a visual highlight anyway", explains district court director franz truppei. Despite all the joy about the start of construction after a long planning and tendering phase, the replacement of the windows, which is scheduled to take almost four months, is being carried out while the court is still in session.

St. John takes stock

At the new year’s reception of the johanniter-unfall-hilfe (JUH), regionalverband oberfranken, at the johanniter-treff "unter den linden regional chairman darius gotsch looked ahead: "in 2017, we initiated many projects and achieved a lot, and we want to continue that. I am sure: 2018 will be our year." At the new year’s reception, which was also a thank-you for the support in the region, gotsch thanked everyone for the good cooperation: "what unites us is the goal of helping people."
The good annual balance sheet of the regional association of upper franconia is also reflected in figures: in 2017, for example, almost 3,000 participants were trained in first aid courses, and the driving service covered over 5,300,000 kilometers to take people in upper franconia to the specialist, to the rehabilitation clinic or to the hospital.
Around 700 customers now use the johanniter home emergency call service, and the signs are also pointing to growth in the care sector. In 2015, the social station started with ten full-time employees and cared for 40 clients. In the meantime, the number of employees has risen to nearly 30, who care for 100 clients per month. In addition to nursing and care, the team from schlusselfeld has also been offering escort services to doctors or shopping since 2017.

Expansion

This year, the johannitern have new projects lined up again. Following the move of the schlusselfeld fire department to the new fire station, the johanniter rescue station can be expanded. The former fire department building will be redesigned for this purpose. "It is a pity that the fire department is moving out of the building and will no longer be close to its colleagues, but it is an important step for us. In the new rescue station, not only will the spatial situation improve, but our call-out times will also improve, for example", said head of the rescue service andreas dennert. In 2017, the team of the rescue station went out on more than 11400 emergency rescues and transported more than 1500 sick people.
The planned housing complex in schlusselfeld is also being pushed forward: the basic idea behind the johanniter housing complex is "as much independence as possible, as much support as desired" linked to the goal of creating housing for the elderly that is geared to their needs and can be adapted to their housing needs through modular construction. The residents will be able to use JUH services, but there will also be day care and short-term care places.
And also at the venue of the new year’s reception, the johanniter-treff, the offer is to be expanded. Yvonne wagner, the new director of the meeting center, and her team of about 20 volunteers, have a lot of plans: "we want to offer more day trips in the future. We are also planning a pick-up and drop-off service to make it easier for elderly people to visit the meeting place, for example."

Refreshment potion from muhlhausen

Afri-cola and bluna – the two brands of soft drinks are certainly still familiar to older people. The typical cola taste still exists – as winella-cola. As a former licensee of the bluna company in poland, the soft drink manufacturer in muhlhausen still receives the afri-cola basic ingredient.
Cornelia wichert, the great-great-granddaughter of company founder sebastian wichert, recently experienced a completely different kind of nostalgia. Two bottles of lemonade from your company were found in a broken-down restaurant. Bottling date: 1996.

Cornelia and her husband siegfried tested the one. "It didn't have as much carbon dioxide, but it wasn't spoiled at all", she reports and comes to a very important topic for her: preserving drinks. "Drinks with more than twelve percent fruit juice content must be preserved. We pasteurize them. That's why we only use glass bottles and metal caps."

Fit for the future

Fit for the future

Whoever comes to the sport home of the FC 46 grobwenkheim will notice that a lot has changed lately. Extensive renovation work has been carried out on the outside and inside of the building. However, the measurements are not yet completely finished. In terms of sports facilities, the club was one of the pioneers in the wider area to afford its own home, because already on 16. October 1966 the building received the church blessing after less than a year of construction. At just over DM 40,000, the construction costs remained within the calculated range. "After five decades, extensive renovation was urgently needed", says dominik harter. He is the member of the executive board responsible for the operation of the playground and, together with matthias mackler, responsible for the economic operation, forms the duo that actively leads the various measures. The financial area is in the hands of board spokesman patrick schmitt. The general meeting in spring 2017 gave the go-ahead for the renovation work.
Four years ago, a new gas heating system was installed to replace the old furnace. From the end of october 2017 to the beginning of march 2018, the sports center resembled a construction site. "We have finished in time for the start of play in the spring", matthias mackler is relieved. The roof in the pit area was insulated and dammed, and the eternit panels were replaced by sandwich sheeting. The stable canopy construction is particularly striking. On 18 meters long and five meters wide the terrace was roofed over. "So that the spectators no longer have to stand in the rain and in the blazing sun", says harter. Plans are being made for the forecourt to be used like a tent for festivities. The building was repainted with friendly female paint, thus overcoming the much-discussed, unconventional mud color.
Inside, the two dressing rooms were renovated and refurnished, and one storage room had to be eliminated. In addition, the rooms and showers, including the referee’s cabin, were newly tiled, new windows were installed, the ceilings were suspended and the hallway was painted in a light color. The previous doors were replaced by new ones in a light gray color. New furniture was also installed in the kitchen. Harter puts the cost at around 40,000 euros. Without the contribution of members and non-members alike, who invested around 800 hours of their free time, such an extensive inspection would not be possible. The club had to take out a loan of 35,000 euros and still expects grants from the city of munnerstadt and the bavarian sports association. "We would like to thank all the helpers, who supported us with their professional work and reduced the costs considerably", say harter and mackler in unison and are already looking ahead to the current and next year. The guest room is to be made brighter and friendlier and receive new flooring. In addition, an annex will be built as a storage room and for equipment such as the lawn mower and the utensils for the game operation. The sports hall, which was built by a courageous club management more than 50 years ago with a view to the future, will be maintained by the current, young club management and extensively adapted to the current requirements in a future-oriented manner for the sports and social area.

Goller brewery exposes the city wall in the beer garden

The goller brewery is now embarking on the project of uncovering the city wall in the area of the beer garden. The fourth phase of the comprehensive remodeling will start in mid october, according to a company press release.
The goller company has already made some structural changes on its site on the edge of the old town. In the spring of 2016, the entrance to the parking lot has been renewed. The entrance area and parts of the main corridor in the brewery guesthouse, as well as the "schutzenzimmer" and the "stadtmauerstubla" are not available in the brewery guesthouse have been redesigned. And now on monday, 16. October, the fourth and, for the time being, the last stage of the reconstruction project in the "old freyung".

New sanitary facilities

An extension to the restaurant building is to create sufficient space for new toilet facilities. In addition to new ladies’ and men’s rooms’ toilets, a disabled toilet will be built for the first time in the goller brewery restaurant, completing the concept of a barrier-free restaurant.
In addition, the demolition of the bowling alley building at the beer garden will now take place in the fall. This will reveal the city wall behind it – and the beer garden will become more coarse. The wall is to be built in the same way as the inner part of the city wall in the "stadtmauer-stubla" to be restored and staged by passive lighting.
According to goller, the toilet facilities in the brewery guesthouse will not be available during the forthcoming renovation work. As a substitute, a toilet container will be installed in front of the entrance to the restaurant in speiersgasse.
